First United Methodist Church of Stoughton, MA
Every knee shall bow, every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord!

WHO WE ARE...

The First United Methodist Church of Stoughton is a Christ-centered, Bible-oriented, prayer-focused, mission-minded, family-geared, seeker-friendly, intergenerational, intercultural and interracial community of faith.  These are all technical, discriptive terms that simply mean we are a group of folks from various backgrounds and experiences who have been brought together as a family in our  love for Jesus and who seek to grow in His knowledge as we serve Him in this place.

Our Mission Statement reads:  We have a mission as a church that we have been called together to be the people of God here in this community of Faith, to provide spiritual experiences for our children, a community that will stand with them throughout their life.

  • That we have been called to care, nurture and support each other in times of need, that we truly enjoy being in relationship together.
  • That we might come to hear God's call to share the Good News with God's people in our community and the world.
  • That we might discover the strength and joy that comes from a spirit of generosity.

MINISTRIES...

The ministries of FUMC are many and varied. There is something for everyone. Children can serve as acolytes and lay readers during a worship service, be involved in the Christian Education Program, Youth Groups and summer Vacation Bible School while adults can serve as lay ministers during worship services, be on a committee or assume a leadership role in teaching, working with the youth or in planning a special program or event.

People of all ages can be involved in the music ministry or with community outreach programs such as the Stoughton Food Pantry, which First UMC sponors,  or assist or get low-cost food packages from SERVE New England which is a food coop, as well as helping out with special collections of medicines, school supplies and personal care items for local and global mission projects that are on-going at First UMC.

A desire to serve and a little time and effort  is all that is necessary.  Whatever gifts and talents you may have, you are encouraged to be creative and use them here for the work of the Lord.

Our Brazilian Brothers and Sisters...

Another facet of First United Methodist Church is our Brazilian congregation which meets each Sunday  and Tuesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. for praise and worship.  All are welcome to come and worship with them.  If you don't speak the language, they will provide an interpreter to help you.
